Global Citizenship Litter and Waste

We are a green school working on our 6th Green School Flag on Global Citizenship Litter and Waste.
Global Citizenship means everyone, everywhere has a responsibility to make a positive difference in the world.
Compared to our previous flags which were related to issues in or around our school, this Flag is helping to raise awareness on how looking after our environment aids people all over the world.

In school we Reduce, Reuse and Recycle while also reviewing all our previous flags. We encourage saving energy by turning off switches and taps. We encourage walking or cycling to school. Recently we have organised bottle recycling through the re-use bins and recycling batteries through Batteries for Barretstown.

Our Greens School Committee have shared messages on Fair Trade, Climate Change and responsible electronic recycling. We held a poster competition for our new slogan. Well done to everyone for taking part.

We have displayed our new Green Code in every classroom. We have learnt about the Global Goals and will continue to learn about these and their impact on the world.

Picker Pals Programme is new to our school and we are trailing it within the school. We have replaced all the posters on our bins and recycle correctly. Swanlinbar Tidy Towns Committee have support the school by holding competitions including posters displayed in the main street and resources for our garden.

We have learnt about eating healthy and planted fruit and vegetables in our polytunnel. We take part in Food Dudes every year and have signed up to Incredible Edibles.

To try and reduce our single use plastic we introduced 'No Waste Wednesdays'
Every little action adds up - and together we an protect our world and keep it a beautiful place to love.
